Title: Living the JEDI WAY

Author: Michele Doucette

MTFBWY: “May the force be with you.” Chi-pa Amshe

The Jedi church has been recognized as an official religion. Did you know that? Admittedly I did not follow the Star Wars saga and therefore was unaware of the messages imbedded in the contents. The Jedi church believes that there is one all powerful force that binds all things in the universe together. They believe in learning how to quiet the mind so you can listen to the force within you. Their belief system stems from modern adaptations of Taoism and Buddhism and ancient philosophies, strongly encouraging activities that cultivate physical and mental health.
There are 3 main sources of life force energy; solar, air and ground. Undoubtedly when your life force is high, you feel strong and confident. Likewise, if your life force energy is low you will feel weak and lethargic.
I hope I am not the only one without knowledge of the Jedi practice, but at this time there are approximately 390,000 followers in the U.K. alone, another 20,000 in Canada. After reading this book and further research, I am contemplating making that number 20,000 plus 1.
Along my journey for spiritual and mindful wellness I have had to accept some facts that are a bit hard to swallow. As difficult as it may be to accept, the reality is, that all we experience has been and continues to be attracted by us.
Physic awareness means not only listening to your instincts but it also means you have to learn to trust the decisions you make from them. The more you use your instincts the stronger your psychic abilities will become. Time is taken to explain the Nine Pillars of Psychic Awareness. The author, Michele Doucette refers to them as “pertinent social graces."
Michele lives in on the west coast of Newfoundland. She is a person of many interests, a Special Education teacher, scrupulous researcher, author and family person. I believe from my instincts that I can trust her words of wisdom as I have certainly learned from them.
I have had the fortune of reading several of her books, all dedicated to clarity of her information. There are many websites given in her footnotes for further investigation, some of which have amazing content.
Way to go, Michele. You have my admiration and the Highest of Recommendations. Reviewer: Cheryl Heinrichs, Allbooks Review www.allbooksreviewint.com

Title: Vicarius Christi: The Vicar of Christ

Author: Michele Doucette

“It is my utmost yearning that these words, cited herein will become the reality of the greater multitude.”

Vicarius Christi begins with a history lesson that will shake you to your very core. A truth so profound, it will change the old belief patterns and open the door for a new and more truthful reality.
Chapter one sets the stage by informing the reader of the facts that document the self- proclaimed power of the RC Church, based on a centuries old forged document, The Donation of Constantine. I do not want to expound on this in detail, but highly recommend you read it for yourself. This fact driven chapter will open your eyes to the truth, based on well researched and verified detail.

Once the stage is set in chapter one, we learn how to use this information for the “better good, the good of all” and how to progress on our own journey to self. As in her previous books, the author uses a simple, conversational style that is easy to read and understand. Quotes from several well respected authors are included as is the bibliography at the end of the book. The author recommends additional reading and websites to further enrich the information found within this book.

The author of several spiritual books, Michele Doucette, excels in research which is evident in this book. Her specialty is the historical significance of Knights Templar, Cathars, and the search for the Holy Grail. She has made it her mission to bring the truth to light and encourage change.

Title: The Age of Amy Bonehead Bootcamp

Author: Bruce Edwards

Have you ever been to a bootcamp? How about one where you fall into a world where your inner personality shows clearly through your now animal head? Well that’s exactly what happens to Amy Dawson when her parents send her to Bonehead Bootcamp.
After her big move from the city to the Midwest, which she isn’t happy about, she strikes out at her family until they’ve had enough. Her parents decide that Amy needs a change of attitude and think the best thing for her will be to send her to Bonehead Bootcamp. As it turns out Bonehead Bootcamp isn’t your average bootcamp for troubled teens. It’s actually a scary, fantasy land where a goat man forces Amy and three other teens to see their real selves and change the animals they truly are inside.
The Age of Amy Bonehead Bootcamp is truly a book about finding one’s real self and getting over the bad animal like parts of the human personalities in the world. Amy represents the average kid really well, who is angry about moving and lashes out. The twist in the story is a different idea that is actually a really great way to show the many different types of people by making their heads look like animals.
The author Bruce Edwards does a really great job setting up the plot of the story. He also does a good job at creating the characters so that they really do match the types of animals he makes them. I highly recommend this book for new readers from middle school to early high school kids who are looking for a great read about teenagers around their own age.

Title: To Kill The Duke
Author: Sam Moffie:

Take a journey back into the 1950s, alongside a cast of familiar characters, and re-visit the ‘Cold War’ in a different light…!

Author, Sam Moffie, creates a tidal wave of excellence pouring out and onto each page of his latest literary work, ‘To Kill The Duke.’
Moffie constructs a work of art in this piece of – historical facts meets fiction. As a history buff, I have always been interested in learning more about the ‘Cold War’ and the major consequence it had on our history as a whole. What if I was to tell you a soviet plot was constructed by Stalin, to find and assassinate the one and only – American film icon, John Wayne, aka ‘The Duke!’ Sound crazy? Historical documents prove just that! Sam Moffie combines historical facts of the cold war with colorful fictitious characters and humorous situations – all which play a riveting role in this masterpiece. True to fashion, Moffie’s dialogue glitters among this star-studded cast of characters.
What do ‘Susan Hayward,’ John Wayne,’ and Howard Hughes’ have in common – besides all being iconic film legends? They are all immortalized in Moffie’s tale of suspense, espionage, and humor.
I am thoroughly impressed with the amount of time and research Moffie put into creating ‘To Kill The Duke.’ Toward the end, Moffie lists the cast and crew specifying their careers and untimely deaths.
‘To Kill The Duke’ is a fascinating read that any history buff can appreciate – any reader for that matter that is searching for a book with a unique plot, mesmerizing characters, and enjoys dark humor.
Sam Moffie has written four previous novels – I highly suggest that you check them out as well!

Title: Assassin’s Trap
Author: D.C. Shaftoe

Back from his first adventures in the book; Forged in the Jungles of Burma, where he was kidnapped and interrogated, the ever suave MI-5 agent John Brock thrills us again with his continued espionage adventures. This time, Brock who is the head of counterterrorism for Great Britain's secret service finds that his life is threatened by an unknown band of assassins. In Assassin’s Trap, Brock must use his cunning and skills to foil the would-be assassins while at the same time protecting his beloved wife from their clutches.
This book starts off with a bang-up car crash and continues it’s pace at the same speed never letting up on the proverbial gas. Brock always keeps his wits about him even when his life is in danger, while at the same time, behaves in a caring manner so that his wife won’t worry about his safety.
D.C. Shaftoe does a wonderful job of balancing the plot’s action with Brock’s real and endearing concern for his wife. She uses just the right amount of humor in her writing which helps to make all of her characters very real. It’s a spy fantasy that resonates well with women - a sophisticated spy who has heart pounding adventure after adventure who is at the same time, a considerate husband who appreciates and respects his wife.
There’s more coming. The threat replayed in John’s mind as the rain poured down his already soaked body, the chill on his skin matching the chill in his heart.
When his mobile rang, he checked the caller ID. It was his wife. If he let the call go to voicemail, she might worry – and frankly, he could use a little Caroline right now.
Pausing to wipe the water from his phone, he answered, trying to keep his voice easy and light. “”What’s up?”
Packed with plenty of action, this book delivers what readers want - a married spy who cares as much about his relationship with his wife as he does his exciting job. Assassin’s Trap is an engaging story, well written, sported by referenced material, and filled with subtle humor. Shaftoe’s characters are real and the dialog moves the plot along. Assassin’s Trap certainly managed to capture this reader with its character’s exploits.

Title: A Pocket Full of Voices
Author: Alfred M. Albers

This whodunit is a fun little romp through the backstage worlds of stage magic and ventriloquism. Gary Egan is a ventriloquist whose rising career in a New Jersey casino threatens to self-destruct when he is charged with robbing a number of celebrity guests of high-value possessions. He calls his old friend John Michaels, a retired magician with a penchant for solving crime, to be a character witness. Murder is added to the mix as this tale of misdirection, conspiracy, robbery and revenge gets moving, and protagonist Michaels and his clever crew are in the best position to bring the key players out onto the stage of justice to take their bows.
This reviewer will not speculate as to whether author Albers breaks the magician's code by revealing the tricks used by his fictional prestidigitator, Michaels. Suffice it to say that the descriptions of how he pulls off his illusions all seem plausible, but without the necessary equipment or experience it's anybody's guess as to whether the tricks work exactly as described. This book should probably be affixed with a "Magician's Spoilers" warning label, just to be safe. If you prefer never to know how stage magicians ply their trade, this probably isn't the book for you.
There's no such well-known axiom about ventriloquism secrets, but in truth the amount of information revealed about this art is merely enough to whet the appetite of the curious. The reader will understand that "throwing one's voice" is a sophisticated auditory illusion, and some of the general principles which make it possible. It's unlikely that anyone would finish "A Pocket Full of Voices" and feel angry that their belief in ventriloquism has been forever shattered, but consider this a warning nevertheless.
It would be unfair to delve more into the details of the story itself, for this is a mystery, and has the right to unfold at its own pace. The pace itself, however, is sometimes slowed by the stunning level of detail with which every moment is described. As merely a reader of mysteries, this writer can only imagine how difficult it is to find the right mix of clues and false leads to keep the story moving. Too few clues and the tale seems implausible, but too many and the reader figures it out halfway through.
This author's solution is to add more and more detail. The result are descriptions of actions and scenes which stretch on a good bit longer than is prudent, and conversations which often seem like interrogations. The responses to questioning are always far more in-depth than would seem credible. Skipping over a few of the longer passages took nothing away from understanding the tale.
Those concerns aside, "A Pocket Full of Voices" weaves an interesting tale that is full of fascinating information from the world of entertainment illusion. The details of how and where and when and whom are well thought-out, and as noted above, the tricks and capers are explained thoroughly. This is a fun little mystery that brings with it the spice of living the life of an entertainer, and what could be better than that?

Title: Mystic Fear
Author: Jan Evan Whitford

“To be wronged is nothing unless one continues to remember it” says Jan Evan Whitford, the author, through one of his characters in this ultimate non-stop adrenalin generating thriller.
Unfortunately for Nikki O’Conner, the heroine, the one she has wronged 25 years ago continues to remember it. Fortunately for us, the readers, we get to read this incredibly satisfying thriller as a result.
15-year-old Nikki, a gorgeous cheerleader, innocently accepts a high school double-dog dare to play a prank on a dashing but extremely shy male schoolmate named Marion Hess. The prank is called the “Marion Hess Fact-Finding Commission”. You must read this novel to find out what fact Nikki is supposed to find out. Also, find out why Marion feels he is so fatally wronged that he still continues to remember it, hatching a relentless “Nikki O’Conner “Become” Mission”.
Let’s fast forward. Nikki, at 40, is still as gorgeous and sought after. She is now a park ranger and life is good for her now. She has survived two husbands and now is happily married for three months to a third husband who adores her. As a testament of his undying love, he gives her a rare antique purple brooch.
The plot thickens when they discover after they have the brooch appraised, that it is worth a million dollars. However, little do they know that legend has it that this beautiful object brings bad luck to all but its rightful owner. Well, Nikki is obviously not the rightful owner, because when she comes home one night, she finds her beloved third husband murdered and Marion’s message addressed to her at the crime scene, hence the title, Mystic Fear.
Reading this novel is like going on a non-stop roller coaster ride through a series of romance, mystery, psychosis, and murderous chain of events, all of which leads to Marion’s obsession to make Nikki “Become”.
It is also amazing how the author, Jan Evan Whitford, is able to juggle an enormous array of engaging characters and copious number of subplots, and tie them all together neatly and beautifully to give it such an agreeable ending. Bravo! Mr. Whitford.
I would strongly recommend this thriller to readers who want it all and are willing to risk a heart attack reading it!

Title: When Wolf Comes
Author: John Pappas
Aidan Ephraim Martin was a man whose life took turns that no one could have ever predicted. The challenges he met after that fateful day in 1801 when he sat down for a drink in a public house after a hard day of fishing would have killed a lesser man. Being knocked unconscious and waking up as a captive seaman, miles out to sea, didn’t stop Aidan from living. Becoming a refugee at an isolated Spanish mission in northern California didn’t cause Aidan to lose heart. The all too brief interlude as a free seaman led to Aidan’s greatest test. He was grievously wounded, captured, and sold as a slave to a tribe in what we now call the Pacific Northwest.
Only at the end of this cleverly written tale of adventure can the reader come to understand what survival means.
Writing is an art. History is a science. To mix them together so they form a uniform and cohesive whole takes a passion and a love for both along with a strong desire to share. In this book John Pappas has demonstrated all this.
In writing historical fiction an author locks himself into a set of rules. These rules include everything that is entailed in the times during which the writing is to occur. All the actions of the characters are limited by the technology of the time, the clothing, social rules, etc. Even though it is fiction which implies that everything is pretend, using a historical setting means there are usually a set of expectations. To resolve a plot question an author can’t suddenly have a poet in 1750 Japan invent an electric generator using western principles. It just doesn’t work.
What works is John Pappas careful use of what had to be deep research into the history of the time. His characters use what is realistically at hand. Aidan’s toolkit is never complete, but completely realistic. His knowledge of ironworking is a beginner’s level which improves as he teaches himself and makes use of what is at hand. This book is definitely highly recommended and will not disappoint. This reviewer is ardently awaiting any possible future installment of Aidan’s life.Reviewer: John Helman, Allbooks Reviews.

Title: From the Heart
Author: Tony Samara

“The topic is consciousness—an aspect that everyone here and many
people around the world are putting a lot of effort into understanding—and
I would like to highlight some of the misunderstandings around
consciousness so that perhaps those misunderstandings, and those other
ideas that the mind likes to create to confuse us as individuals and also
as a society, and as a family and as a group of people, can be looked at
with clear intention and let go of.”

From the Heart is a collection of Satsangs (Sanskrit for spiritual discourse, talk with the divine) that can be found on the author’s website: www.TonySamara.TV. All of the clear and precise Satangs were recorded in the Garden of Light in Germany. Facet by facet, the author reveals an important life lesson and a step toward living from your deeper, spiritual self.
Chapters include Let Go of Jealousy, Believe in Yourself, Consciousness, Fasting & Love, Meditation and many other topics that will entertain, educate and profoundly alter the way you see life and your own reality. The opening paragraph of this review is an example of the writer’s style and deep commitment to his lessons.
Reading this book is like listening to a conversation filled with awe inspiring wisdom. Readers are captivated by the words page after page. Instruction is simple, and easy to apply- if you pay attention and really hear what is being said, really take it into your core being and believe that it is the “Truth.” You can change your life and this book is the first step in finally applying all that you have heard and learned; the final missing link to happiness and peace.
One of the things that appealed to me about this book is the supporting website where readers can continue their journey. I am now a regular visitor to both the site and the youtube versions of the meditations and I know you will be too.

TitleChildren of Discord: Second book of the Gastar Series
Author: CC Cole

Many reviewers will tell you that you need to read the earlier books in a series in order to enjoy
and/or understand later books in the series. Don’t you believe them! And if you want proof, just
pick up and read “Children of Discord: Second book of the Gastar Series.”
Children of Discord plops you down on a planet in the future or some other planet in our galaxy,
a place nervously at peace for a few hundred years after wars nearly destroyed everyone.
Swords and knives, magical and otherwise, are the weapons of choice to combat vampires and
other mythological creatures.
Into this mix come two children, Shevata and her arch rival Goldeon, teens hundreds of years old and dating back to the old war to settle old scores and put everyone at risk as they do battle.
Shevata is summoned back to Gastar by a group of unlikely allies. The growing city has forgotten
much of its dark history, and the clash of the two dangerous children place the unknowing people
of the city in danger.
C.C.Cole, is the author of the Gastar Series, a series of four novellas when completed, follow
teen assassin Shevata as she journeys through the history of her home city of Gastar to seek
redemption for her past actions and to regain her soul. The first novella, "Act of Redemption" was published in 2009. The second novella, "Children of Discord" was published in 2011.
“Mississippi is my home,” says Cole, “I live a suburban life with my family. Schooled in the
medical field, along with writing, other interests include martial arts, adopted greyhounds,
Medieval and 20th century history.
With this being a novella, it is a fairly quick read and for many readers because of the intrigue
and the desire to find out “what happen next,” the story could be read in one or two reading.
There is a bit of “back and forth” in the time line but I didn’t see this as a problem because much
is revealed and Cole doesn’t trip over her intricate plotting.
For fans of dark fantasy and don’t mind seeing some of the “good guys” die, I Highly
Recommend Children of Discord.Reviewer: Peter Klein Allbooks Reviews. www.allbooksreviewint.com

Title: I Want To Know My Future
Author: Linda Dipman

Can you imagine arriving home from work to witness your best friend and her parents being arrested? Try to imagine your own children being ripped from your arms when all your efforts to save them from abuse has failed and now caught up with you. One cannot know with certainty how they would react in any given situation. In this case Elizabeth fled from the state of Kansas to Colorado with her children, best friend Tori and son, along with Tori’s parents. The women had become best friends after both had divorced their husbands, emotionally supporting each other, bonding with such strength they realized they were in love. They were as surprised as the rest of their family, friends and church having been brought up to believe that homosexuality was a sin.
Without fail Elizabeth reads the word of the Bible finding support in its passages. She was secure in her belief that God was sending her messages to continue her struggle and survive the unjust prejudice put upon them. Yes there were moments of doubt, especially due to the damage being done to the already traumatized children. Ultimately faith never wavered, giving them strength to fight and survive the unjust prejudice.
Elizabeth had been well liked and respected in their small community. She was very active in church events and teaching, a kind hearted woman, who followed Christian life to the letter. She had originally won custody of her three children but her ex-husband, a deacon in their Southern Baptist Church had the local Judge in his pocket and managed to rally the small narrow-minded community to persecute and ostracize both women. They felt the only chance of a life together was to move to another state to start over.
The custody battle went back and forth for years, the children being the pawns, the women hiding their true relationship. Elizabeth had an impossible time trying to convince the court that Eric had been and still was abusive or that one of her sons had brain damage caused by his father’s wallops to the head. In one particular event, Eric physically assaulted Elizabeth with two of his church buddies as witnesses then taking part in his cover-up scheme.
The author, Linda Dipman lives in Colorado. She has three married children, eight grandchildren and managed her own upholstery business for over thirty-five years. The book is written advocating God’s love and she continues to spread his word.
The book written in fictional style is actually recollection of horrendous persecution and misjudgment from the legal system. There has been some controversy as to whether the subject of homosexuality should be in the description of the book. I feel only a religious person would pick up the book and the surprise of homosexuality content would be taken in stride. Coming from a small rural town, I can attest to the validity of the narrow mindedness of some church members, and the personal damage they can cause. Highly Recommended for open minded readers. Title: Shaman’s Wisdom: Reclaim your lost connection with the Universe
Author: Tony Samara

“Anthropologists have for a long time called into question the concept of “primitiveness” by realising that it may not be so. What can be said about a “civilization” which is unaware of the natural laws? By being satisfied with their existence and freedom, by not needing to harm themselves or compete against others and the world that surrounds them in their search for happiness, indigenous communities express an
example completely missing in centers of Western “civilization” such as New York City and London.”

Author Tony Samara was raised in Egypt. A sickly child, he was insightful yet removed. A powerful dream brought great enlightenment to his life, but caused him a difficult time during his teen years. His attempt to feel and be “normal,” was in vain. Joining a Buddhist monastery at fifteen, he learned to channel his interests and curiosity in all things spiritual. Two years later, his curiosity took him to the Amazon and later to Peru, where he lived and studied Huachuma shamanism, a traditional form of pre-Incan healing.
Shaman Wisdom is a book for the select few that are truly interested in the healing properties and cultural aspects of shamanism. It is not a book for the masses, although the more readers, authors like Mr. Samara can reach, the better off we would all be!
Well laid out, the book walks readers through the stages of shamanism; starting with “sound” and the explanation that our body’s cycles must be listened to. The movement of energy creates a vibration often ignored or not heard due to outside influences and noise. We learn that the icaro, a song of power, is a vibratory bridge of energy for all beings living on the earth. Chapters on breathing, willpower, meditation, freedom, and dreams will enrich your knowledge of shamanism and your life. Informative chapters of the Four Directions and totem animals will educate and entertain.
Shaman’s Wisdom is a book that will become a source of reference for years to come and should be part of the library of everyone seeking wisdom and enlightenment. Well written, in depth research and a subject truly engrained in the author’s soul, make this an excellent read that is highly recommended by this reviewer.

Title: Bastion: Prequel to War

Author: A. L. Collins

The day Rigil is to take his final challenge to become a city guard is the day his life changes forever. And not in the way you may think. The challenge was a distraction and while he (and his team) were distracted; Rigil’s home, his city, his friends and colleagues burn to the ground or fight trying to escape. Seeking the root of the problem and justice, Rigil uncovers a plot to, in a sense, take over the world. He meets up with a cast of characters and sets off to right the wrongs.

The first bit of the book essentially describes the history of the world that the author has created. Throughout the novel we generally follow Rigil and his crew, but occasionally we get either another history lesson or meet a new cast that Rigil and team has yet to be introduced to. As a result, these changes can be a bit confusing, especially when trying to piece everything together – we are given only the pieces of the puzzle and somehow, we have to fit them together to make sense of it all. Most of the book is written through Rigil’s point of view. However, other than the instances mentioned previously, sometimes the point of view shifts within a scene (several times at that), and it’s confusing as to whom the she/he being referred to actually is. The plot, after the first history lesson, moves pretty fast and there are a lot of action (and magical) scenes. However there are a few instances where the plot really dragged, so I think there is some room for tightening up the plot. There is an interesting host of characters with witty (and sometimes awkward) dialogue. The conclusion – there is not one. There is no cliffhanger. The story is incomplete.

A. L. Collins is a young author from the state of Maryland. He recently graduated High School and has a love writing stories. This is his first novel.

I think there is potential here for a really good story, but it still needs a little bit of work. It’s still considered a good read by: Margaret Orford, Allbooks Reviews. http://www.allbooksreviewint.com/index.html

Business owners and managers “are so busy working in their business that they have little time to work on their business”. A quote in the forward of this book by Dr. McCain and a truism of business in general, especially in the current economy. A Legacy Of Successful Business Practices is a book that deals with the fundamentals of moving a business forward, not just the “How To” of running a business. As in the quote above, Dr. McCain points out that business owners and managers are usually too busy fighting the fires of operations and management to do what it takes to bring the business to the next level. External and internal pressures and influences tend to drive the business and can create an environment where the business is less successful than it should be. Another quote from Dr. McCain states that his book is different from other management books because his is “a book that shows small and midsized company owners and managers how to repair deficient parts of their business, spoken in the language they understand, gets their attention.” Legacy is full of practical knowledge and advice. The first chapter, “Lean Toward Fundamentals” sets out the theme of the book and demonstrates how Dr. McCain will use his experience in real world scenarios to make his points while providing practical advice. If you are honest in your evaluations you will probably see yourself and your own preconceived notions pointed out in his teaching. Pay particular attention to “McCain’s Maxim’s”, the many rules to live by presented in the book.
This book is well laid out and, as a businessman myself, is full of useful knowledge ready to be applied. Are there any earthshaking revelations that will take you from a zero to millionaire over night? No. Nor does it make that promise. That is what I like most about Legacy. It presents the knowledge that we all learned (or should have) in business school and/or on the job, and brings those lessons back to the forefront. It is common sense and real. It steers away from theory and the clinical forms of business advice found in academia and gives you advice on what to do today to repurpose and revision your business.
The problems I did have with the book were in formatting, and this is a continuing problem with ebooks. There are areas where word spacing is an issue and there was no interactive Table of Contents or other navigation aids provided to help you move around the book.
A Legacy Of Successful Business Practices, is highly recommended by author and Allbooks reviewer, Gregory J. Saunders. Allbooks Review Int, www.allbooksreviewint.com.

Title: What is love? Perspectives On Love
Author: Fadi Hattendorf

In the foreword of this book, Fadi Hattendorf dedicates her work “to all the lovers of love” who have inspired and motivated her. On the back cover it promises the reader a different definition, meaning and understanding of love.
I do consider myself a “lover of love”, although I wouldn't ever phrase it like that. I'm in a fantastic relationship, but know that even the best relationships can benefit from new perspectives and understanding. So I approached this book – a thesis on love, complete with fictional characters and scenes to illustrate the points the author is trying to make - with a very open mind, ready to start growing emotionally.
But whatever emotional roads Fadi Hattendorf has taken in her life, they have taken her to an understanding of love that I don't want to share, a perspective from which I do not want to view the world.
It's a perspective of heartbreak and pain, calculation and loss. Statements put forth to seem impartial and clinical come across as an imperfectly masked bias against love. Her characters are either hurt by callous scheming two-timers, or ARE the callous, scheming, two-timers. They either learn their lessons about trusting love, or defend their choices for betraying it.
While I acknowledge that people certainly can be cruel, and thoughtless, and selfish, and that some people treat love like a game, or a means to an end - I believe very strongly that those people, and the negative motivations they allow to control them, are not examples of “love”. They are symptoms of its lack.
But it's not my book and Fadi has every right to her own perspectives. Many people see the world the same way I'm sure, and I will admit they would see this book very differently than I do. However, there are technical difficulties as well. It reads in places as though it's been translated from another language with different pacing, tenses, and sentence structure. There are grammar issues, punctuation issues - it is a book that would benefit greatly from an editor's services.
There really ARE good things to be found in this book. Fadi shows great flair for creating unique imagery, and metaphors, that capture not only the point of what she's
trying to say, but also the feel of it, the emotional essence of whatever she's describing.
When one of her characters betrays the woman who loves him, with forethought and calculation, she writes - “He had already measured the temperature of the water before he let her drown in it.” That is good writing. In my opinion.
With a good editor to clear away the technical problems and bring that sort of writing to the forefront, instead of buried beneath layers of technical awkwardness, it could potentially become a book some people might enjoy.

Title: THE STAMP
Author: Ed Brodow

Good looking, athletic Lieutenant Tommy Courten has a bad guy, good guy personality. Rough and ready to go at a moment’s notice, necessary attributes for the front lines of Vietnam, with a gentle, thoughtful interior that gives him the control and ability to reason, making it possible to live in an ordinary society. He marries but that doesn’t work. He works for IBM, but that company is too confining and controlling. He just doesn’t fit. Though Tommy doesn't really fit the Marines either, he does his best and learns some valuable skills he will soon need. Then his kid sister, Ellen, is killed. Her boyfriend cannot keep her around once she becomes pregnant because he is married. If she had just left him alone, it would not have happened, he theorizes. Tommy must get revenge. The police and military do not seem to be able to do anything because the accused, Private Rodney Zapata, has fled to Bogota. Tommy takes justice into his own hands and flies to Columbia in search of Rodney. There he finds his prey but he also finds Luz from an area called Guajira. Only Luz and her people can save Tommy’s life, not just his physical body but also his heart and soul.

Ed Brodow has written a crisp, intense story about the life of one man, Tommy Courten through the eyes of another, a friend of Tommy’s. This unique treatment gives this novel a sense of intensity as his friend sees Tommy’s life through his own reflections on his life and those of friends and family close to him. Tommy’s friend sees different experiences as “Stamps on the Forehead” of individuals. The Vietnamese War was a stamp on Tommy’s forehead, a time in his life that would change him and not allow him to move forward. Then, as he is trying to do just that, Ellen’s death again forces him back into his old pattern. Only exceptional wisdom and love can change the stamp on Tommy’s forehead.

This is an exceptionally well written story and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.

Title: Essentially Yours
Author: Aaron Paul Lazar
Coming home – those are the words that immediately came to mind as I read the first few pages of Essentially Yours, a sequel to the exciting mystery, For the Birds, by Aaron Paul Lazar. I had forgotten how much I loved these characters, and they welcomed me back with open arms like I had never been gone. That’s part of the magic created by an author like Lazar. Don’t get me wrong though, perfect strangers are welcomed into the fold as well because you could easily read this book without having read the first. Either way, you will never want to leave because the excitement and suspense is nonstop.
How many times have you read the second or third book in a series and felt that it just didn’t live up to the quality of the first book. Sometimes the energy just seems to fizzle out, and your interest is no longer held captive. But if the author can find a way to recharge that energy and infuse it into subsequent books, he has found the secret to success. Aaron Paul Lazar, with three different series on the go, has definitely found that secret in this second book of the Tall Pines Mysteries series.
Turning the first page, it appears as if life is finally back to normal. Marcella and Quinn Hollister have resumed their happy lives running an antique shop and enjoying each other’s company in their home on one of the beautiful finger lakes of upstate New York. After surviving an extremely dangerous adventure just a year ago, life seems beautifully quiet and routine. What are the chances that their lives could be turned upside down again? Well, some people seem to attract trouble, and apparently Marcella is a trouble magnet! While enjoying a relaxing morning swim before joining Quinn at work, her peace is shattered by the arrival of a pontoon boat from across the lake. Most alarming is that at the wheel is her best friend, CallieLissoneau, an agoraphobic who is usually too petrified to step foot out of her house. Something must be terribly wrong.Coaxing the story out of a distressed Callie, Marcella is once again drawn into a whirlwind mystery that will hold the reader mesmerized until the last page is turned.
This time around the mystery revolves around a curious phone call and a box that arrives at Callie’s door from her brother, Sky, who disappeared 18 years ago, containing an olive green knapsack, brown glass bottles full of essential oils, a very old book appearing to be a holistic health guide, a hemp necklace with a small vial of liquid attached to it, a book of Shakespeare’s sonnets, an amber crystal, a bag of emeralds, and a memory stick full of data. Is Sky actually alive somewhere, and if so, what do all of these items have to do with his disappearance so many years ago? Now, take all of these items, throw in, among other things, a murder, a kidnapping, a ransacked house, a medical research facility, a ruthless and greedy drug company, a hair-raising and almost war-like helicopter gun battle that puts everyone in grave danger, and even a psychic crystal connection that provides them with clues, and you have the recipe for a heart thumping race through the Adirondack Mountains to save what matters most to the future of apossible medical breakthrough.
One of Lazar’s greatest strengths as a writer is the way he develops each of his characters into someone uniquely memorable and allows us into their heads and hearts to feel their every thought and emotion. You meet Marcella, who is stubborn to a fault, but this is because she will stop at nothing to protect the ones she loves. Her husband, Quinn, tends to be obsessive compulsive, but Marcella’s love for him is so deep that she endures his quirks because he is her rock and gives her strength. Callie has had a very difficult life dealing with a sister who hates her and the memories of a brutal rape during her college years. Her agoraphobia is quite understandable considering all she has been through, and Marcella has always been there to support her through it all. Lazar not only develops rich characters but he then works his stories around the strength of the relationships between these characters. Each character has his or her own peculiarities, but somehow they seem to complement each other, and the strength of the relationships allow them to work through anything, whether it be something as simple as feelings of jealousy or something as dangerous as freeing a friend kidnapped by gun-wielding thugs. As a result, you easily come to love each and every one of the characters in the story, and you cheer them on every step of the way because ultimately you just want them to find happiness.
The suspense builds continually throughout the story like the growing tension before a thunderstorm, and you feel like you are on pins and needles waiting for the storm to break. As the reader, I had questions flying around in my head throughout, and I found myself talking to the characters, suggesting ideas when they were stumped. What I love about Lazar’s mysteries, though, is that there is always a good wind down period at the end of the story where all of the remaining puzzle pieces are put into place and the characters settle back into their normal lives. It allows you as the reader to wrap up all the loose ends in your mind and feel contentment for the characters before you have to leave them.
Once again Lazar weaves a tale that made me resent my family, job, and other obligations every time they took me away from the story. All I wanted to do was keep reading right to the end without interruption. There is something about the way he crafts his stories that makes them flow like a smooth stretch of river interspersed with multiple sets of rapids in that you have only just allowed yourself to take a breath and calm yourself before you are thrown into the rapids once again. However, whether floating through the calms or battling the rapids, you always travel unimpeded. What I mean by that is that there is not a single section where you are hampered by rocky areas of boring details or heavy, unnecessary descriptions where you seem to become stalled in your reading. Nothing stops you from wanting to continue. If you love a fast-paced mystery with meaningful characters that become like family, I can’t recommend this book enough, and I for one will be waiting with baited breath for the next instalment in the series.
Aaron Paul Lazar resides in Upstate New York with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, four grandchildren, mother-in-law, two dogs, and three cats. Besides being an accomplished author, he is also an engineer by profession. He also enjoys gardening, cooking, photography, cross-country skiing, music and art, interests which he passes on to the characters of his novels. Aaron has also authored the LeGarde Mysteries and the Moore Mysteries which should also be part of every mystery lover’s collection.

Title: Finding Thomas
Author: Christopher J. Holcroft

Thriller Finding Thomas sheds light on death
Christopher J. Holcroft’s fourth written novel Finding Thomas is a well-tied package of murder, suspense, rescue, and adventure. I strongly recommend this book for teenage boys (around ages 14-15) because of the alluring sense of crime that is woven throughout the entire plot. Girls who enjoy books with danger are also encouraged to try this read.
Right from the prologue of this book, Finding Thomas grabs your attention. It begins with a phone call, a sobbing mother on one end and her comforting husband who works for a politician on the other. Her shattering cry of her son being dead will immediately bring forward questions. From there on, the story only gets more captivating. The son and also protagonist, Kit Green, is miraculously brought back to life but after his revival, he is not the average teenager that he was before. He now possesses the ability to see and talk to spirits that have passed away. Finding Thomas now diverts the plot so that it has more of a supernatural feel. The deceased son of the politician (that Kit’s father works for) befriends Kit in order to stop their fathers from being killed by a shady police officer. And thus, their thrilling crime adventure begins. There are many twists and turns during plotline and will always keep you wondering what will happen next.
This book is written in third person and therefore you can understand and read situations from the eyes of different characters, although it mainly is from Kit’s point of view.As you dwell further into the book, you will start to love Kit Green and his wistful character. Holcroft has added many characters that you may be attached to and will cheer on as the plot progresses. Finding Thomas is one of those intense books that will never bore you. Although it may not be the type of book that you will be forever glued to but you will definitely finish it enjoyably. As mentioned before, typical teenage boys will take a great liking to this book but not all girls will enjoy it as much as I did.
Christopher J. Holcroft has much experience with journalism, communications, media training, and complex public information planning and implementation. After serving 35 years as Venturer Scout Leader and member of the Australian Army Reserve, he decided to write adventuring boy-like novels, encouraging young men to read more. Finding Thomas is his fourth book, greatly inspired by the passing of his brothers and his belief that there is life after death. He is now married to Yvonne and has three sons. The family enjoys outdoor recreational activities such as camping and scuba diving.

What is more terrible than seeing a battered, homeless mother cat with her two kittens? Luckily for the frightened momma, the spunky entourage of cat friends happen to be searching one day for Soupy’s foster raccoon son, who lives in the very same woods.

Soupy, Lola, Lila, Puff Puff and Spider Man want to share with their new pals the love that they’ve been shown. Title: The Furnace
Author: Timothy S. Johnston

The Furnace is a book about a homicide investigator named Lieutenant Kyle Tanner. He is one of the best at what he does and can make difficult captures that others couldn’t. SOLEX One is where his next case will be. SOLEX is a power-generating station that is dangerously close to the sun. Someone on the station is a murderer who cuts the head and hands off of his victims and it’s up to Lieutenant Tanner to find out who. To Tanner’s surprise he learns that this case is different than any other case he has ever had. This case seems to have no motive, no connection between the people dead. This case turns out to be bigger than Tanner ever imagined and if he doesn’t solve it, the whole human race could be in danger.
The Furnace is an intense locked-room murder mystery that is definitely a page turner. The story is very well written and keeps a reader on their toes and wondering who the possible killer could be. There is never a dull moment where the story drags on, the story is always moving forward and surprising a reader.
A reader will be taken into the future and feel like they are right there along side Lieutenant Tanner trying to figure out the mystery. All of the characters are well-developed and the story is written well with many turns of events that keep a reader constantly worried for Lieutenant Tanner’s life. Timothy S. Johnston definitely keeps a reader’s attention with this mystery/thriller plus it has a little romance on the side.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone into upbeat mystery/thriller stories. This book is a great read and is definitely not one to be missed. I will be looking forward to more great stories from Timothy S. Johnston.

Title: FUN WITH STUFF
Author: BRUCE A. SMITH
The texting generation has a term that would aptly describe this collection of hilarious humor columns: LOL. (For texting Bozos such as myself, that means: “laugh out loud”.) Seriously. This man is beyond talented! In fact, since Dave Barry retired, Bruce A. Smith could be the heir-apparent. He’s that good. And guess what? In FUN WITH STUFF, we get treated to FIFTY (count ‘em!) of his columns. I took them one at a time, savoring the special, ingeniously edgy wit. Like the best humorists, Mr. Smith pokes fun at himself and everyday situations even while he regales us with a peppering of what the book jacket calls the “disorienting and bizarre”. I could add refreshingly goofy. Cool, heady stuff.
This is where I’m supposed to present a short, one-paragraph synopsis. Summarize FIFTY columns of different situations in one paragraph? Yeah, right. Okay, well, let’s start with golf. Golf is one of his subjects. Why, there are probably more jokes about golf than any other sport, but the author gives it his special creative and original twist and it’s beyond summarization. Only forty-nine more? Right. Here goes: the columns I enjoyed most involved the follies of RV’ing (I, myself, did that for 10 years), the complexities of picking a wedding dress, house maintenance woes, “hair that looked like a cat sucked on it”, tax frustration in a box, kids that make you grateful for a vasectomy, smelling odorless deodorant, the running toilet handle jiggle fix, some nutrition system food that smells like something died, mile-long cash register receipts, and most of all: a quip about the author dating himself. Oh yeah, and a mind-bending thingie about “Plan-B”. Whew! But wait, there’s more! Did I forget to mention the brilliant silliness of ordering a patty melt in a Der Weinersnitzel? Hiding Starburst candy from a shark? Analyzing fossilized dinosaur poo? How about some profundities on the meaning of life, such as “if life’s a joke then why not laugh.”
The book jacket info tells me that Bruce A. Smith has been writing humor for over thirty years. I’d say that’s quite an accomplishment. Not easy, being continuously funny for that long. His columns have been featured in a passel of publications and locations- However, he admits that many of his jokes are stolen from his wife, who lives with him in southern California.

Title: At Risk: Passion and Peril at Sea
Author: Jackie Ullerich

“Take a Cruise on the Dead Sea – Or is it a Cruise with Death!”

Author, ‘Jackie Ullerich’ writes a chilling thriller – tosses in some romance and suspense for seasoning, and the recipe is complete. Her literary recipe has just the right amount of show and tell. Her creation of descriptive characters and striking scenery – along with believable dialogue, makes for one exhilarating read.
Tracy Bradshaw is a young socialite in a troubled marriage, juggling a husband with an intense aspiration for political power, and a mother-in-law that demands perfection. Craving adventure, she books a cruise for her and her husband, Peter. However, with a full schedule on his plate, he declines – tells her it might do them good to have time away from one another. Determined to make the best of it, Tracy goes ahead with her plans. Upon boarding the cruise ship, her mundane life takes a drastic turn as she finds herself among many seedy characters.
Joanne Watkins and her husband, Jack, are indeed colorful characters. Joanne is quite fond of cocktails – morning – noon and night. Who could blame the poor woman with a retired military officer – neo-Nazi sympathizer as a husband? Their relationship makes for a volatile plot in itself.
Patty and Ben Redford’s marital relationship is the epitome of what marriage is all about…well, almost. Ben, a consultant for the FBI, often brought his work home. With a PhD in economics, he managed to draw attention from the bureau when he published a paper on the subject of ‘hate groups.’ Can you see where I am going with this?
It is clear that Ms. Ullerich has first hand knowledge when describing the detailed beauty of the exotic locations, as her imagery is impeccable. In writing “At Risk,” the author weaves an intriguing plot of suspense and thrills. I look forward to reading more from this author. If you are a fan of this genre, you will be highly entertained.
As stated in her book, Jackie and her retired Air Force JAG husband reside in Palm Desert, California where her husband golfs while Jackie writes.

Title: The Gauntlet Runner: A Tale from the French and Indian Wars
Author: S. Thomas Bailey
Gauntlet Runner, while a work of fiction, is about real battles that took place in early America before the fight for independence.
As a reviewer I must mention that there is a graphic description of the torture of Indian captives that some may find disturbing. It all depends on the individual reader and their level of comfort with the descriptions. Many such incidents have been recorded and depicted in numerous movies dealing with the “White Man” and Indians (Now called Native American).
S. Thomas Bailey, author of the Gauntlet Runner is a researcher of early North American life as a raw historian. If you are at all interested in early American history, Gauntlet Runner is a book that should be added to your required reading list.

Title: The Idiot – I Was A Lunatic From A Geordie Grangetown

Author: David Poulter.

Many psychiatrists and psychologists have written books on what it is like to suffer from paranoid schizophrenia, offering their wisdom and social commentary of the effects the disease on those unfortunate enough to have it.
The thing is though, wouldn’t it be better for someone who has been living with the disease a long time to tell the story from their point of view rather than just listen to someone who has read about the disease do it? David Poulter’s The Idiot – I was a Lunatic From A Geordie Grangetown is that story.
The Idiot is an autobiographical memoir that charts the growing up and adult life of a man who has voices in his head but a will to continue to live his life no matter what is thrown at him.
From his roots in the North-East of England, Poulter charts a story of despair, triumph, loss, discovery and a determination to not let the problems and pitfalls of life bring him down, even though he suffers a lot to bring him down.
For a story with so much trauma and depressive states of mind, you would be forgiven for thinking that this book could be one to avoid unless you like to read something that is the written equivalent of Eastenders, full of doom and gloom. The book actually manages to maintain an uplifting overtone throughout the bad times as Poulter takes the read from England, to Wales, to Ireland and on to Taiwan, through careers working with the soil and becoming an English teacher out in Taiwan.
Through all of these changes of location, the constant in his life is the voices in his head, voices that are both good and bad. The way this internal menace is dealt with exudes strength of character that is not often put across in depictions of people with paranoid schizophrenia, and acts as a very good example of how whatever life throws at you, there are always ways to cope and deal with it.
The book reads with ease, and at only 118 pages isn’t a marathon run of repeated prose and unnecessary padding. It tells the story that is has to tell in a succinct yet in depth way without resorting to being patronising, languid or getting bogged down in wallowing self-pity which it so easily could have.
Certainly a book worth reading, whether you have an interest in how someone with schizophrenia manages to live their life as normally as possible, or whether you’re just looking for a book that will draw you in for a few hours. Definitely one I would recommend. Reviewer: Anthony Lund Allbooks Review Int www.allbooksreviewint.com

While travelling the path to enlightenment with the purpose of experiencing inner peace, you will learn that life is all about energy and vibration. If you are living with negative thoughts, that energy is projected into your outer world causing many scenarios of fear and loss. Through the Law of Attraction we create our future, be careful of what you think, and listen to your heart. We have been blessed with an intelligent mind, capable of learning how to develop the skills needed for inner peace. If you are reading this book you are probably not happy with your life as it is, therefore having a desire to change it. Since your world is an extension of your mind, you must change your mind, how you feel and live. Learning to be nonjudgmental of yourself and others is a large part of growth. Learning to love yourself, faults and all, is a monumental step for many starting the journey. It is through the power of positive thinking that will change your life.
Our minds are conditioned by outside sources since birth. At a young age we learn our family’s beliefs, customs and religious doctrine. As we grow older we encounter different beliefs and values which influences our thoughts and actions. For example, we need to become knowledgeable regarding our world’s affairs so that we are not tripped up in media hype, which is often biased. We need to ask questions about what we have seen or heard. We fear what we do not understand. Fear itself can inhibit personal growth or caution you to be more aware. As with fear, anger can cause many physical changes. We must learn to control our thoughts and focus on what is best for ourselves, become empowered.
Our author, Michele Doucette covers mindfulness, conditioning, knowledge versus wisdom, selfishness versus selflessness, the Christian connection to Buddhism and much so more of how we get in our own way. She has a soothing style of communicating, inspiring trust in the knowledge she has uncovered through 20 years of research and experience. She is very clear in her teachings. Learn to accept responsibility for your actions, understand why you react the way you do and change your life.
I have had the opportunity to read several of Michele Doucette’s books. Each one is a different experience of acquired knowledge from which I have learned so much on my own journey. With no hesitation I Highly Recommend reading her exceptional works.

A Time Travel to Grand Pré was the sequel to this book. Here we learn that Madeline Sinclair experiences a strange and exciting transformation as she travels back in time to 1754, and a very different Grand Pré, Nova Scotia, than she is used to.
Now, not only is Madeline back home but she has brought her husband, Michel with her from the 1750’s. This is a great surprise for Madeline’s mother. Michel has a great deal of adjusting to do in modern times but acclimates very well. Both Madeline and Michel have learned that their ancestry and the history of the Acadians, has given them a strong message of love, to deliver to modern day society- A very important message that could change the world.
Michele Doucette has mixed her metaphysical message with fiction to produce an entertaining and educational read.
The author of several spiritual books, Michele excels in research which is evident in this book. Her specialty is the historical significance of Knights Templar, Cathars, and the search for the Holy Grail, all which are covered in this book.

Genre: Social Commentary/fiction
Title: God Hates Fags
Author: Joe Wellman
The ringing phone and the voice that thereby entered her consciousness shattered the Sunday afternoon calm of Teri Goehl. The voice told her that her husband was a closeted gay man and had been ‘outed’ by minister at a local church during the morning’s sermon. This would only be a precursor to the horrendous news later of the murder of her husband with the title of this book emblazoned on his forehead.
The author of this book, Joe Wellman, has crafted an interesting little tale that fortunately is not strident in any finger pointing other than its basic question as to whether an individual can be held accountable for the actions others take, based upon his public statements. To most civil libertarians, the answer to this is obvious in the abstract, but at the gritty level of reality of this story is it so cut and dried?
It must be stated that this reviewer was taken aback by the title of this novel because of the individual who has popularized the phrase used as the book’s title. Due to this and the fact this same individual was, in 1998, lauded by the then Vice President of the United States for his fundraising activities, this reviewer has looked to the history of civil libertarian thought in western society and the pronouncements of the Nuremberg Tribunal in evaluating the points of logic and plot turns in this book.
Joe Wellman’s personal history shows a great passion for the advancement of gay rights. It is quite commendable to have deep beliefs, and even more so to act upon them, especially if they are not the most popular in the arena of public opinion. This being said, it has never sat well with this reviewer to use ‘hot button’ terminology in the hopes of advancing rational discourse. It has the tendency to be a ‘thought stopper’ that allows the reader to be more open to persuasion based solely on emotion and lacking in reason.
The next and final point due to space limitations has to do with the trial itself. In the name of ‘whatever’ prosecutors have brought charges for some really, really, odd reasons, but a so-called ‘hate crime’ for passing along what could be considered gossip from a pulpit without calling for anyone to do any specific action, is beyond the realm of credulity. The second is that if such a case should ever be brought that the defense or the prosecution would allow a Roman Catholic nun to be seated on the jury is incompetent at best. The Roman Catholic Church has never been a standard bearer for gay rights at any time.
This reviewer does not dislike this book as it does try to make a point. This reviewer just disagrees some of the points of logic and legal procedure the author uses in trying to make this point. Any book that is worth the writing is worth the reading. It is just up to the reader as to what is to be taken away from it. Reviewer: John Helman, M.A., Allbooks Reviews.

This book is written in third person and therefore you can understand and read situations from the eyes of different characters, although it mainly is from Kit’s point of view.	As you dwell further into the book, you will start to love Kit Green and his wistful character.
